Advantage of HPE GreenLake – Selectium Program model in relation to public cloud or purchase of own IT infrastructure
The HPE GreenLake – Selectium Program enables the use of the cloud IT model by providing the appropriate infrastructure located locally on your premises. Therefore, it is also an excellent solution for customers who like the concept of a public cloud, but have a requirement that their data remain in Nigeria (or even within the company). This requirement may arise for legal reasons, which ensure data security, as well as the high cost of comparable services in the public cloud.
When purchasing your own IT infrastructure, an estimate of the resources required is usually made in relation to the current workload as well as the planned future growth. With this, the client decides to invest and pay for the equipment just before it starts contributing to the company’s business results. Mutual funds are therefore also used for IT resources that are not (yet) needed, as they were purchased due to an estimated need in the future. This is not optimal, because the client could invest these funds more profitably – for example, in the primary activity of the company. The pay as you use model brings predictability to the budget, which leads to market flexibility.
How does the HPE GreenLake – Selectium Program work?
The model (offered exclusively by Hewlett Packard Enterprise operated by Selectium to the Nigerian market) can be easily explained as follows:
The customer needs sources of information that are defined as 100 units. A unit is defined as RAM used on servers or TB capacity on a disk system, at a pre-agreed price. Selectium through its partners delivers information resources to the customer in the range of 110 units (100 units + 10 units of flexible reserve – buffer). Each month, the customer receives an invoice according to the number of units used, which cannot be less than the agreed minimum use, e.g. 80 units. Monthly usage is measured using a special software tool (Metering). When the monthly consumption exceeds 100 units, Selectium, through its partners provides additional IT resources at the customer’s location in the amount of 10 new units (120 in total), thus providing the customer with an additional 10 reserve units, which he pays only when he actually uses them.
