The HPE GreenLake – Selectium Program business model includes sources of information that the customer uses as-a-service and pays for them monthly, similar to a public cloud. However, the infrastructure (unlike the public cloud) remains at the user’s location. In this way, the customer has control over the IT environment, security and privacy, and latency that can occur when using the public cloud is excluded. This model can include almost all HPE infrastructure – servers, disk systems, system backups, network equipment, etc.
Advantage of HPE GreenLake – Selectium Program model in relation to public cloud or purchase of own IT infrastructure
The HPE GreenLake – Selectium Program enables the use of the cloud IT model by providing the appropriate infrastructure located locally on your premises. Therefore, it is also an excellent solution for customers who like the concept of a public cloud, but have a requirement that their data remain in Nigeria (or even within the company). This requirement may arise for legal reasons, which ensure data security, as well as the high cost of comparable services in the public cloud.
When purchasing your own IT infrastructure, an estimate of the resources required is usually made in relation to the current workload as well as the planned future growth. With this, the client decides to invest and pay for the equipment just before it starts contributing to the company’s business results. Mutual funds are therefore also used for IT resources that are not (yet) needed, as they were purchased due to an estimated need in the future. This is not optimal, because the client could invest these funds more profitably – for example, in the primary activity of the company. The pay as you use model brings predictability to the budget, which leads to market flexibility.
How does the HPE GreenLake – Selectium Program work?
The model (offered exclusively by Hewlett Packard Enterprise operated by Selectium to the Nigerian market) can be easily explained as follows:
The customer needs sources of information that are defined as 100 units. A unit is defined as RAM used on servers or TB capacity on a disk system, at a pre-agreed price. Selectium through its partners delivers information resources to the customer in the range of 110 units (100 units + 10 units of flexible reserve – buffer). Each month, the customer receives an invoice according to the number of units used, which cannot be less than the agreed minimum use, e.g. 80 units. Monthly usage is measured using a special software tool (Metering). When the monthly consumption exceeds 100 units, Selectium, through its partners provides additional IT resources at the customer’s location in the amount of 10 new units (120 in total), thus providing the customer with an additional 10 reserve units, which he pays only when he actually uses them.
Why choose HPE GreenLake – Selectium Program?
The advantages of this model are the following:
- Reducing or even eliminating the cost of purchasing and owning physical IT equipment;
- Reducing the total cost of information technology, as large investments in the purchase of equipment are no longer needed;
- The ability to rapidly expand “unlimited” information infrastructure resources means that the IT department can respond quickly to new business requirements;
- Elimination of long cycles of information infrastructure procurement;
- Reducing the need for multiple hardware upgrades and restructuring;
- A simple, regular and predictable transition to new technology;
- Agility and flexibility ensure that the company responds quickly to changing business needs and remains competitive in the market;
- You only pay for what you use that month, the prices are pre-agreed for the entire duration of the contract and there are no unpleasant surprises;
- Pay-per-use IT offers flexibility as a cloud-based model, as well as control, security, and reliability of the infrastructure in the local data center. The equipment is not located somewhere in Amazon or Google Cloud, but in your location, and the agreed SLA (Service Level Agreement) is provided by the local office of Selectium and / or your chosen partner.
- Last but not least, the pay-as-you-go IT model includes comprehensive support services that help the customer focus on the core business rather than the day-to-day maintenance and operational operation of the IT infrastructure. The service package is always determined together with you, according to your needs, and the implementation will be taken care of by the Selectium teams and the selected partner. In addition to classic reactive support, you can also count on proactive services, either remotely or on site.
Proactive support
Proactive services are designed to meet your requirements. They significantly reduce planned and unplanned congestion, while reducing the time required to resolve issues. The Customer Support Manager (ASM) is the team leader who will take care of you and provide you with the infrastructure capacity management service, plan support, provide operational and technical advice, and analyze and implement necessary system software upgrades and fixes on the infrastructure.
The team that takes care of you will meet with you regularly to agree on support for your IT environment and plan further capacity upgrades (capacity management). We will collect data on current usage, discuss expectations for future use, and identify needs for your organization’s IT capabilities. The conclusions will be summarized in a capacity report to ensure that steps are taken to install new capacity in a timely manner.
And if, despite the stated advantages of the HPE Greenlake – Selectium program, you plan to buy your own infrastructure, it is worth mentioning that all the above services can be ordered and delivered even in this case, in the entire HPE hardware portfolio.
